Filled with wholesome Postassium-rich fruits and vegetables, there’s no need to go through a body toning, muscle fatiguing barre workout without a nutrient rich, and delicious smoothie like this. Potassium and Sodium are some electrolytes your body needs for contracting muscles, exchanging and flushing fluids. Sodium isn’t typically difficult to come by, and if over-consumed, tends to cause us to retain fluids, increasing inflammatory reaction. Meanwhile too many in our population are Potassium deficient. What’s more, it’s better absorbed through food.
So you’ve tapped into some amazing deep-muscle activating moves, but you need them relaxed and hydrated too. So get your detox on and recover from the sore after-burn by not only stretching, and hydrating with water but also by indulging in nature’s delicious electrolytes!
Ingredients could be endless, but I like to keep ingredients quick and simple. You know, the type I can count on 5 fingers – so here goes:
GREEN WITH PASSION SMOOTHIE
Here’s what you need for 1-2 servings:
Ingredients:
- A handful of Kale
- A handful of Spinach
- Half of a banana
- .5 cup of fresh or frozen (no sugar added) pineapples
- 6 oz of Coconut water
- 1 cup of Ice*
- Optional: 1 Scoop Protein Powder Supplement (protein enhancement)
- Optional: 1 Scoop Green Powder Supplement (nutrition enhancement)
Preparation:
Blend all until smooth, add a few ounces of water if needed
*If you get the fruit frozen, then you may skip the ice
Enjoy!
P.S. If it’s been too long or you haven’t had a chance to try our Passion Barre classes yet, we’d love to host you. Freedom and the sweet after burn has been spreading like a wildfire since we introduced Rancho Cucamonga to the barre! Your first trial class is only $15, or you have the option to try 3 Classes for $30 – and we’ll be donating a portion of that to our partners who rescue women and children from human trafficking, so click here to reserve.
In Southern California, we serve Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Fontana, Ontario, Claremont, Montclair, Corona, Eastvale, Mira Loma, Riverside, Pomona and other surrounding cities. See you at the Barre.

It’s a question I hear a lot at Passion Barre (and practically everywhere) – especially from women. And I mean from dedicated people who are trying relatively hard to shed those unwanted pounds of fat. The foundations of maintaining a healthy weight and body fat composition have always been the same, however it has become necessary in our modern time and society to take better ownership of our health and detect the varying lifestyle habits that could be weight gain or plateau culprits.
The good news is that solutions continue to abound – and not to worry, you don’t need to know everything! Just learn the foundations and pick out what you find to be helpful and actionable – then start from there. With the right attitude and accountability, you’ll be seeing desired results in no time.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, currently 36% of Americans are Overweight and 34% Obese, but the better news is that Americans are starting to wake up to the idea of exercise and a healthier diet to prevent or cure obesity and other related issues.
WHAT’S THE CAUSE?
Obesity has been around for ages, but the epidemic and cause has gone beyond over-eating or under-activity, leaving even active and committed individuals frustrated and confused.
Common causes of obesity could stem from genetics, food addictions, macronutrient imbalances, insulin resistance and cortisol imbalance, hormone signal impairments, certain types of medication, marketing (tsk tsk!), culture, ignorance, and simply doing the wrong type of workout for your state of health or body type, etc. However, there are other complicating factors that could slow down one’s ability to lose weight/fat. These include Depression, Inflammation, Digestive disease, Hypothyroidism, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Blood sugar imbalance, Chronic fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Candida.
Where to start?
LIFESTYLE STRATEGIES
If one suffers symptoms from any of these conditions, you may start addressing the root cause by consulting a physician to get a picture of things; and learning to listen to your body. Then, revive your lifestyle and eating habits with strategies that specifically target these areas. Simultaneously, de-stress and get into a workout routine you can enjoy. There are a lot of good outdoor, brick/mortar and online options out there! You may connect with us for a customized lifestyle plan to support your goals, or for helpful resources like those at DrAxe.com to help in identifying symptoms and solutions. Below are helpful tips:
1. REVIVE YOUR DIET!
Reviving lifestyle and eating habits is extremely crucial as they also affect any of the possible conditions above as well as the ability to lose weight. So in a sense solving one issue solves the other.
In order to revive, however, it is wise to replace old patterns that have not supported your goals so far. They have no life in them, therefore, let them die. Focus on foods that support your body’s ability to heal itself. A lot of these foods are also fat-burning, so here is a general list of what to eat:
High fiber foods – Foods high in fiber like vegetables, nuts, seeds, and berries make you feel fuller, without increasing your caloric intake.
Vegetables and Fruits – These are high in nutrients and low in calories.
High Quality/Organic Protein – People who eat at least 3-4 ounces of protein per meal tend to experience more satiety and eat less overall.
Wild-caught fish – Obesity tends to increase inflammation, so include foods rich in omega-3 fats to balance the ratio of widely available Omega-6 fatty acid foods.
Coconut Oil and Ghee – These healthy fats are easy for your body to use as fuel but should still be used in moderation.
2. HERE ARE FOODS YOU WANT TO AVOID:
Processed and junk food – These aren’t foods at all; and are designed to be addictive, plus the quantity becomes difficult to control.
Refined sugar – Increases hunger and leads to eating empty calories.
Refined flour – Refined products are high in calories, and low in nutrients.
Sweetened beverages –As we shared last month on how to easily lose 30 pounds, a lot of people do not account for the calories in their beverages before consuming them.
Trans and hydrogenated fats – These fats produce inflammation and are only found in foods empty of any real nutrients.
If you find any of these frequently in your diet, you want to revive your diet with the real, nature present, life enhancing foods like those previously listed above. Think of food as medicine.
3. MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE TOO, AND SO IS LAUGHTER!
Barre, Pilates and similar forms of movement have been shown to improve health, weight loss, moods and appearance.
When done with focus and intensity, these workouts benefit:
Memory – Journal of Physical Activity and Health
Deeper muscle activation
Reduce stress and anxiety
Improved Posture and Spinal Health
Better balance
Improved flexibility
Increased muscle tone and firming of the body
How about that for a great class?
So get into a routine that you’ll enjoy, or invest in accountability that’s a good fit for you. As you get involved, give yourself real time. Crash dieting or forgetting to take into consideration present limitations while going after fitness goals can discourage you in the process. Also keep in mind that there is so much working for you even when you face limitations. Keep your mind on the possibilities and what you are already accomplishing. Get yourself in an environment charged with inspiration, encouragement and joy, helping you develop an attitude that will help you focus and become what you focus on.

Hopefully you’re starting to enjoy some of the top fat-burning foods I shared some time ago that will help zap fatigue, improve your mood and energy, reduce inflammation and lose weight!
The discussion started as part of our answers to dealing with the question why am I not losing weight? Perhaps you can relate?
Maybe you started on your fit and free lifestyle journey and saw some improvement but it seems you hit a plateau before getting to your ideal size or weight. This can be discouraging especially if you have been pounding out those workouts- I hear it a lot, especially from women!
And while I completely second one of the most obvious answers to this challenge – (“change up your workouts and workout routine”) I believe in a more comprehensive approach addressing a number of underlying reasons.
Weight loss plateaus can stem from:
Food addictions, macronutrient imbalances, insulin resistance and cortisol imbalance, hormone signal impairments, certain types of medication, marketing, misinformation, culture, ignorance, and simply doing the wrong type of workout for your state of health or body type, etc.
Additionally, there are other complicating factors that could slow down one’s ability to lose weight/fat. These include Depression, Inflammation, Digestive disease, Hypothyroidism, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Blood sugar imbalance, Chronic fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Candida.
Those are a LOT of the possibilities that often go unaddressed, especially for us as women! Sometimes we get treated like men in the workout process and the approach should not be the same. So if you are facing any of these, you need to know that I understand that the struggle is real!
…And so is your solution! That’s the good news. You know me… in every discussion I want to know what the good news is, and I bet you do too.
I mean it already concerns me when I know that you might struggle with what you see in the mirror, or that your confidence seems shot when your clothes fit awkwardly or when you’re not sure how your loved ones see you.
But what really grips my heart is the self talk that creeps in when the appearance of the lack of transformation sets in. The one that brings condemnation, shame or blame – making you think this thought pattern is what will cause things to change!
That is one conversation I live and love to interrupt!
What you must remember is that pain is already the crossroad! Pain does not need to be accompanied with anything else in order to drive a point home. One road from pain through condemnation, shame and blame leads to torture. Who needs that???
The other road chooses life, forgiveness, and ownership, not blame – which leads to transformation.
So let’s keep this simple with just 3 keys to breaking your weight-loss plateau:
1. Well first things first… simply get into a workout environment that you can get excited about.
Our philosophy is that you only go where you are celebrated 🙂
You need additional voices that will inspire you and get in agreement with speaking life to your thought life and plan. This is key in staying motivated and getting all the support you need.
2. Get the right workout plan and toss it up every now and then.
e.g., Did you know that if you struggle with adrenal fatigue, doing a vigorously challenging workout could be counter productive? Strange, huh? You just might be depleting what your body feels is left of your energy and then you end up slowing down your metabolism. It may be better to do a more adaptive workout along with the right macro nutrient ratios to get back to a balanced state.
Overall getting 3-4 workout periods a week is ideal. Go for a plan that includes Resistance (body-weight or additional weights); Cardio intervals, Isometrics and Stretching.
3. You can eat whatever you want with these two conditions:
A. Your meals have to be um yum delicious. B. Your meals have to be real and healthy.
Who wouldn’t go for that? And yes, it is absolutely possible – if you learn creation basics.
This is 70% of breaking the plateau!
The best way to achieve this is getting a plan with your workout program coach and simply taking a part of one day in your week to shop and prep.
That is imperative and it is all you need. You create the balance you need to enjoy the health you also need 🙂
Your lifestyle coach should be able address some of the factors listed above that you might be facing and suggest a meal plan that will support your health and weight loss goals. Along with the plan should come continuous communication, support, accountability and a system for measuring goals. Unless this is something you’re naturally good at, all of these should be in place to make life easier for you.
Like having your own health and lifestyle assistant 🙂
And that’s it!
Breaking a weight loss plateau is very possible with the right attitude and in the right environment (it’s the same as any worthy challenge in life).
So what do you think? Can you relate with any of the factors listed above? Are there any areas you’d like me to address personally? Leave a comment below!
Remember, we’re here to help you get started too!
Contact us with questions or click to find out more about our programs that might be a good fit for you.
Again, it’s possible! So see yourself transformed, have a ready answer for any defeating thought patterns and master the art of getting started.

It is our joy to see you thrive in a lifestyle that fulfills a destiny worth remembering. We are thrilled to see you refuse to settle for less – for to do so would be to remain in captivity.
So, from the Chamber of Commerce; to the Photo shoot with Inland Empire Magazine; to a night of rolling, releasing and pampering you; plus the upcoming September 26 “Justice has a Voice” Open Mic fundraiser combating human trafficking – we’ve been busy!
We promised August would be a fun month, and it has, with the #passionbarremysterycall class challenge too! Have you seen the videos? 🙂

We had a fun time interviewing and photo shooting with Inland Empire Magazine, this past weekend, tribe! They discovered us online and thought it would be great content for them to share the passion at our barre with their readers. Be sure to look out for us in their September or October 2015 issue and help spread the word. It just might be that push your friends and family need to come and experience freedom with us 🙂
The throwback thing is I interviewed with Inland Empire Magazine years ago when one of their writers discovered our Karingah! dance and fitness style while it was offered with our friends at Body Rituals. Now, along with it’s juxtaposition with Passion Barre, Karingah! remains an intriguing attraction due to it’s uplifting, invigorating and sweaty experience. It’s no wonder that our focus during the photo shoot quickly became getting that signature energetic Karingah jump shot – not too much unlike the one captured in their May 2008 edition. But we’re keeping our fingers crossed, not knowing which shot the editors will decide is their favorite (:
